Benetton rugby: Stadio Monigo

Monigo offers Benetton rugby in a compact ground with two permanent covered stands. Treviso’s club history runs through its museum and Heritage wall, while the matchday food has its own Italian flavour.

Monigo and Treviso rugby

Monigo is Benetton Rugby’s home in the north-western part of Treviso, about four kilometres from the historic centre. Its long sides are the Tribuna Ovest and Tribuna Est, both roofed. The ground is a municipal rugby stadium, with a compact layout centred on those two established stands.

Treviso rugby began in 1932 as GUF Treviso, initially serving student sport. After the war the club became Associazione Sportiva Rugby Treviso. The first national title followed in 1956 under the Faema name, providing the beginnings of the club story celebrated in the modern Monigo museum.

The Benetton era began in 1979, when the company became the club’s sponsor before later acquiring it. That followed the 1978 national championship won under the Metalcrom name.

Benetton won the Rainbow Cup at Monigo on 19 June 2021, defeating the Bulls of Pretoria 35–8. The final brought together the leading European and South African sides from the competition’s two groups. The trophy was won on the Treviso home pitch, making this one of Monigo’s clearest sporting landmarks.

Monty Ioane, Corniel Els, Michele Lamaro and Edoardo Padovani scored tries in that final, alongside a penalty try. Paolo Garbisi was named man of the match. The Bulls managed one try through Madosh Tambwe, while the home side established a margin far larger than a narrow final-day escape.

The Rainbow Cup final was also Kieran Crowley’s final match as Benetton head coach. The club’s post-match press conference featured Crowley, Lamaro and Garbisi, joining the trophy result to a significant coaching farewell. That combination helps explain why the 2021 afternoon is remembered as a turning point at Monigo.

Before that final, Benetton’s team preview counted twenty Italian championship finals between 1988 and 2010 and twelve titles won in that period.

Benetton entered the Celtic League on 4 September 2010 with a 34–28 win over the Scarlets. That move followed a domestic treble comprising the Italian Super Cup, Italian Cup and league championship. Antonio Pavanello lifted the fifteenth league title before the senior team left the domestic competition for the new cross-border schedule.

The Leoni and their supporters

Benetton Rugby Supporters Club was founded in 2018 by seven supporters. The club’s account describes organised away trips and friendships with supporters of Leinster, Glasgow, Ulster, Zebre, Harlequins and Munster. Those links give visiting followers a specific supporters organisation to recognise around Monigo.

The supporters club lists management of Monigo’s rugby museum among its activities, alongside stadium displays, player meetings and events with visiting supporters. Its role extends beyond the noise during eighty minutes of rugby, connecting the ground’s matchday support with Treviso’s rugby history and the people who played here.

The 2026–27 home shirt retains Benetton’s green-and-white identity. The club presented the design at Treviso’s Museo Bailo and connected the shirt’s graphic treatment with works in that museum. It is a recent example of the Leoni linking their rugby identity with a named cultural institution in their home city.

Our opinion: Monigo’s strongest appeal is the combination of the Leoni’s green-and-white identity, the supporters’ involvement in the museum and the third-half gathering. We would make time for those parts of the visit instead of treating Treviso as simply another away fixture between flights. The 2021 final and the Heritage wall give the ground specific stories to follow.

The Benetton Rugby Supporters Club offers its reusable El goto sociale cup in return for a donation, with part of the proceeds supporting LILT’s Giocare in Corsia programme for hospitalised children. The April 2026 guide located the supporters’ membership point on the West Stand side, alongside a Gilbert stand where players signed rugby balls before the Munster game.

Treviso station, buses and the stadium address

The stadium address published by ticketing operator TicketOne is Stadio Monigo, Viale Olimpia 2, 31100 Treviso, Italy. This is the match venue address; the club also operates at La Ghirada on Strada del Nascimben, a separate location which appears in its organisational contact details.

Benetton’s directions name Treviso railway station as the public-transport starting point and list bus routes 9, 21 and 55 towards Monigo. Route 9 is described as the direct option. The stadium is outside the historic centre, so the rail arrival and the final journey to the ground are separate stages.

For drivers, the January 2026 match guide describes an approach from the A27 at Treviso Sud, continuing towards Treviso and the airport before reaching Strada Feltrina and Viale Olimpia. The named road approach also distinguishes the rugby stadium from La Ghirada’s training and club facilities elsewhere in Treviso.

La Ghirada’s own directions use bus route 7 from Treviso railway station. From Treviso airport they describe route 6 to the station followed by route 7. These are directions to the sports centre, rather than the route 9 stadium connection, an important distinction for visitors combining different Benetton activities.

Food, the club shop and the third half

The January 2026 Dragons match guide names the Dai Leoni family area and lists porchetta rolls, hot breaded-cutlet sandwiches and chips. It identifies La Roggia by the East Stand and Dai Leoni beside the Colfert area among the stadium’s food operators. Those named outlets give a more useful picture of Monigo catering than a generic promise of refreshments.

Benetton locates the official club shop under the West Stand beside the hospitality area. The shop sells team clothing, shirts and other merchandise. In the same match guide, the club places hospitality beneath that stand too, with admission to the hospitality room controlled by the appropriate wristband.

For the March 2026 Cardiff visit, Benetton scheduled the post-match third-half gathering in the Colfert area, with DJ Roger Ramone. Its guide also included the Giocare In Corsia charity presence, associated with support for children during hospital stays. These are examples of the named organisations and spaces used in Monigo’s matchday programme.

For the April 2026 Munster match, Benetton’s hospitality menu included gnocchi with gorgonzola and walnuts, small rolls with cured meats, a dessert buffet, Prosecco DOC and Peroni. The meal was served in the wristband-accessed room beneath the West Stand. Elsewhere, the guide placed Fattore Corner at the West Stand, La Roggia at the East Stand and Dai Leoni by the Colfert area.

Our pick (opinion): The porchetta rolls would be our first look at the advertised food offering; the Dai Leoni area and La Roggia give you named places to begin.

East, West and the South Stand works

The permanent East and West stands provide 5,000 covered seats: 2,300 in the East and 2,700 in the West. The East side gained its roof in 2018 and seats in 2020. The West Stand’s roof was added in 1999, while new northern changing rooms followed in 2001.

For Italy against Scotland on 24 January 1998, temporary seating expanded Monigo to around 10,000 spectators. The international configuration used additional stands, explaining why that historical figure is substantially higher than the permanent two-stand capacity usually quoted for the ground.

In April 2026 Benetton and Treviso municipality announced a removable South Stand designed to raise the total to more than 6,300 seated spectators. The temporary installation was described as a step before the permanent South Stand project, with associated improvements to toilet provision.

The permanent South Stand investment announced in March 2026 exceeded €4 million. Its specification included eight rows with 946 seats, a further three rows with 315 seats, a new ground-floor ticket office and support facilities. The project also made provision for a metal roof and a commercial space beneath the stand.

A 3 September 2026 notice confirms that South Stand and ticket-office works were still changing access arrangements at Monigo. The club directed ordinary spectators through gates 4, 5 and 11, with gate 10 reserved for hospitality admission. Those temporary arrangements apply until the club issues a replacement notice.

The same September notice set stadium and ticket-office opening at two hours before kick-off. It linked the access changes specifically to the construction site and altered pedestrian circulation.

Preparatory works for the permanent South Stand included a fire-protection ring costing more than €472,000, supported by €450,000 in regional funding obtained by Treviso municipality.

Our advice (opinion): For an ordinary seated visit, compare East and West by your preferred view; both permanent stands have cover, so the choice can focus on the side of the pitch.

Wheelchair places and the Strada Cisole entrance

Benetton’s accessible-admission policy lists fourteen wheelchair positions in a dedicated pitch-side area and seven stand places for ambulant disabled spectators.

The policy offers complimentary admission under its stated disability eligibility threshold, with one companion in the same sector. Applications go to the club’s ticket office and require supporting documentation; allocation depends on space availability. Visitors using overseas documentation can discuss the requirements directly with the Benetton ticketing team.

Accessible entry is through gate 11, to the left of the Strada Cisole ticket office. Reserved parking is opposite that office, approached from the Strada Feltrina–Strada Cisole roundabout through a vehicle opening managed by police or authorised staff. This ties the accessible arrival to a precise side of Monigo.

Treviso bases and the Wishing Well

The Wishing Well gives its address as Viale della Repubblica 156, Treviso. It is an Irish pub with beer and burgers among its food-and-drink offer. The venue provides a named Treviso pub option for the rugby trip, while Monigo’s own Dai Leoni and Colfert areas serve a different, stadium-based part of the day.

La Ghirada is a 22-hectare sports complex created by the Benetton family in 1982. Its facilities include five rugby pitches, gyms and outdoor sports areas. The club’s training and development setting is therefore a substantial sports campus, distinct from the stands in which visitors watch the senior side at Monigo.

Our opinion: choose a central Treviso base if the historic city is an important part of the weekend, and treat the stadium bus as a separate journey. A Monigo visit and a La Ghirada visit need different addresses and bus routes. Keeping those two Benetton locations distinct is more useful here than choosing a hotel solely because its description mentions rugby.

The Wishing Well’s published menu includes a salmon burger, a plant-based Beyond Meat burger, fish and chips and an Irish stew made with Guinness. These are specific alternatives to its beef burgers. The pub asks customers to telephone for reservations, giving groups a booking route for a sit-down meal away from Monigo’s stadium food stalls.

The museum and Monigo’s heritage

Benetton launched its Heritage initiative inside the official Monigo museum before the Dragons match in September 2026. More than 200 former players placed individually signed pieces into a wall of memory. The ceremony brought successive generations together within the stadium, making the museum a physical expression of the club’s player history.

The Heritage project recognises anyone who represented the first team in an official match from the club’s foundation in 1932. Benetton reported responses from more than 600 players and described the creation of a permanent first-team roll. At the launch, former players also went onto the pitch at half-time to receive the crowd’s applause.

President Antonio Pavanello opened the Heritage ceremony inside Monigo’s museum before the first home URC game of the 2026–27 season. The permanent roll includes players who made even one official first-team appearance, preserving contributions across the club’s different historical names and generations.
