The competition tells you what to plan

Our recommendation: start with the match you want to watch, then establish the competition, the organiser and the venue. A team name alone leaves too many decisions open. Clubs may play domestic league rugby, a cup match or a European event; those occasions can have different sale arrangements and sometimes different stadiums. Read the listing before choosing the train or hotel.

Think about what interests your party. One group may want an England international, another a club away game and another a first rugby league visit. Make that choice together before pursuing a ticket. Familiar team colours and a celebrated ground can inspire the plan, but the actual rugby on the programme should appeal to the people travelling.

This directory connects each competition with its visitor guide. Use the grounds directory alongside it to find seating, transport and pre-match places. Our ticket advice helps you identify the authorised purchase and match it to your needs. When those essentials are clear, a day trip or weekend can grow naturally around the game.

Six Nations: six national sides, six home settings

the Six Nations rules describe a championship involving England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Each plays the other five once, with home advantage alternating between seasons. A Grand Slam means winning all five matches. Use the Six Nations visitor guide to connect that format with the stadiums.

Our international-trip advice: choose the home fixture before choosing the city dates. Twickenham, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Dublin, the Paris area and Rome each give the weekend a different setting. Read the venue on the match listing, particularly when planning a Paris trip, where the international ground and city-centre accommodation need a clear connection.

Explore Edinburgh, Cardiff, Dublin, Paris and Rome once the match is settled. Our preference is one comfortable city outing around the rugby rather than a packed itinerary. Leave enough room for the walk in and the journey back.

Autumn internationals and the current programme

Use the autumn internationals guide to organise an England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France or Italy home visit beyond the Six Nations. The official Nations Championship website and the participating union’s own fixture listing are the places to establish the current programme and the match you intend to attend.

Our advice: pay attention to the organiser’s wording when a competition’s branding or structure develops. Choose the actual event listed for your date and ground. Avoid using an autumn weekend remembered from another season as the basis for non-refundable travel. If the party’s first choice is unavailable, discuss another home fixture before looking at an unauthorised seller.

A national stadium can serve several rugby occasions within a year. Return to the relevant venue guide for each visit and read the event arrangements alongside it. The Twickenham model guide offers the England starting point. The ground’s history remains part of the appeal, while your ticket, entrance and return journey belong to the specific match.

English Premiership club days and the final

Follow the Premiership guide to compare the English club grounds and the separate trip to the final. The competition’s official fixture service identifies the event; the home club supplies its ticket and visitor arrangements. Choose the ground for that listing rather than treating a club’s usual home as the answer to every fixture.

Our club-trip recommendation: start with the teams, the seat and the local journey. A club afternoon can give a first-time visitor a focused introduction without requiring a national-stadium weekend. The grounds differ in setting and stand arrangements, so pick the visit whose practical details fit your party as well as your sporting interest.

Treat the final as a new stadium plan, even if you have followed a club throughout the season. Read Twickenham for its seating, gates and travel. Compare a local stay with Richmond or central London using the actual route. The ticket you used at a club ground supplies neither the final admission nor its transport arrangement.

United Rugby Championship: a travelling club competition

URC rules describe sixteen teams from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy and South Africa. The regular league programme uses geographical pools and a single table, followed by knockout stages. Our URC guide connects the UK, Irish and Italian grounds with that structure.

Our URC travel advice: let the home club’s actual venue listing drive the booking. A club’s season may use more than one ground, and construction or special occasions can affect the match address. Establish the event before choosing accommodation, then keep the stadium route and the city arrival separate in your plan.

For an Irish weekend, compare the venue with the base that suits your wider itinerary. For an Italian trip, read the entry and transport requirements before paying for the travel. South African teams are part of the competition’s story; this directory’s venue choices focus on the grounds covered here. Choose a reachable fixture that your party is keen to watch, then enjoy the competition through that occasion.

European club weekends

The Champions Cup guide connects European club rugby with the grounds covered across this site. EPCR’s official fixture information supplies the relevant competition and event listing. Use it alongside the home club’s details, particularly for a knockout match or a fixture whose venue differs from the usual home.

Our weekend preference: choose a match that interests you and a place where your companions want to spend time. A French club trip can combine the home ground’s identity with a relaxed local meal. An Irish, British or Italian visit can be equally rewarding when the journey is comfortable and the accommodation suits the group.

For a fixture awaiting its final arrangements, read the purchase and cancellation terms before making commitments. Keep any uncertain travel choice flexible within its actual conditions. The stays guide helps compare those terms without making the hotel search the first decision. A European weekend works best when the match, the venue and the return are already understood.

Super League and rugby league’s cup occasions

Super League’s 2026 information lists fourteen clubs, a regular-season programme and play-offs leading to the Grand Final at Old Trafford. Use our Super League guide for the covered club grounds and Old Trafford for the final as its own stadium trip.

The Challenge Cup guide gives the separate cup route, with Wembley as the final visitor starting point. Follow the RFL’s competition information to identify the event. A cup match and a Super League fixture should be planned from their own listings, even when involving the same club.

Our advice for newcomers: read the first league visit guide, then choose an occasion that fits the journey and your companions. For the big finals, compare the seat, gate and homeward connection before adding a pub stop. For a club day, let the local ground guide help you enjoy the place as well as the rugby.

Turn the choice into a visit

Our final choice checklist: write down the competition, the two teams, the stadium and the official purchase route. Then decide whether the group wants a seat, standing admission or a specific access arrangement. Let those answers lead into transport and accommodation instead of beginning with a hotel offer unrelated to the match.

If several games appeal, compare their complete journeys and total costs with your companions. The most famous fixture need not be the most enjoyable trip for your party. A club ground you can reach comfortably may beat an international weekend whose return exhausts everyone. Use the ground guides to make that comparison, then commit to the occasion you actually want.
