Clermont rugby: Marcel-Michelin
Marcel-Michelin gives Clermont’s Yellow Army a home with a rugby museum and a guided route behind the scenes. The Fidélité sculpture and Auvergne food make the ground’s local identity visible before kick-off.

A century of rugby at Marcel-Michelin
Marcel Michelin created the ground in 1911. Its published capacity is 19,357, divided into 15,988 seated places and 3,369 standing places. The club also lists two pitches across a 4.2-hectare site.
Jean-François Phliponeau died after lightning struck during a friendly on 8 May 1976. He was 25. The match came before the club’s Yves du Manoir final, and his name remains attached to a stadium stand. On the fiftieth anniversary in May 2026, former teammates returned to commemorate him at the ground.
The 2026 commemoration included André Dubertrand and Jacques Cristina, the doctor who treated Phliponeau on the pitch. A wreath was placed at the memorial in the stand bearing his name. The associated youth tournament is another expression of that memory: the name on the ticket refers to a person whose story is still actively remembered here.
Marcel-Michelin was the setting for Clermont’s run of 77 consecutive home victories and four years without a home defeat. The club uses that exceptional sequence in describing its ASM apartment, created from the former caretaker’s residence. The accommodation therefore occupies part of the stadium’s working fabric, with the history of the ground built into its identity.
Rugby is the stadium’s usual purpose, but football has also occupied its pitch. The club’s January 2025 account of preparing for Espaly against Paris Saint-Germain recalled earlier visits by Auxerre in 1984, Marseille in 1995, Sochaux in 1999 and Bordeaux in 2001. It described covering rugby markings and adding the football penalty spots for the conversion.

Yellow Army, memory and the supporters’ alley
The Interclubs organisation brings together 22 ASM supporter clubs under the name Les Jaune et Bleu réunis. Its stated purpose is to pool their resources. The Yellow Army is consequently more than a colour scheme in the stands: it also has an organised network that coordinates supporter activity around the club.
The Fidélité artwork on the forecourt combines several local crafts. Thierry Courtadon worked the Volvic stone, Yves Pires created the bronze player and Louis-Guillaume Piechaud made the Brennus shield. The sculpture presents a player lifting the trophy, making the entrance area itself part of the club’s celebration of its rugby history.
The Allée des Supporters received a refurbishment announced in October 2024. Jerseys hang above the supporters, and the club describes the bar there as the stadium’s largest.
The Groupama Rugby Club hospitality space opened in September 2024. Its historical frieze begins with the club’s 1911 origins and includes Marcel Michelin, the women of ASM Romagnat and the Brennus triumphs of 2010 and 2017. Blue-grey steel and concrete form part of the room’s design, with a view towards the pitch.
La P’tite Mêlée Volvic was established in 2008. The club’s account of its 2024 edition described 90 children aged eight to fourteen, chosen by lottery from 300 applicants. Their stadium visit included meeting players, linking the match-day guard of honour tradition to an organised programme for young supporters rather than an informal opportunity on arrival.

Tram A and the Clos-Four address
The stadium’s public address is 35 rue du Clos Four, 63100 Clermont-Ferrand. Clermont’s tourism service identifies it as a privately owned ASM venue, inaugurated in 1911. Its access guidance recommends the Les Pistes park-and-ride, which connects with tram A; this is a specifically named parking alternative for reaching the rugby district.
The club’s directions identify Stade Marcel-Michelin as the tram stop for the ground. From the city centre it gives an eight-minute tram journey on line A towards Champratel. That number describes time aboard the tram; it is not a published walking time from the platform to a particular stadium entrance.
T2C publishes additional tram arrangements for individual ASM matches. Its notice for the Bordeaux game on 10 October 2026 included reinforced services before the match.
L’En-but gives a different entrance description from the ground’s postal address: restaurant access is through Porte A at 107 avenue de la République. Its postal address remains 35 rue du Clos Four. The distinction matters particularly for a restaurant reservation, because the named street frontage and entrance provide more precise directions than the stadium name alone.
The tourism office’s current ASM Experience directions also list bus S14 to Rodade. Within the museum, the sensory presentation includes a dome in the Sous la mêlée space and an interactive floor feature where children compare their foot size with the players’ feet. Historic objects are displayed alongside those participatory installations.

Food, drink and children’s activities
Le Village is the stadium’s family-oriented area, with games, the mascot Gergovix and sweet and savoury food. The club names Le Truffadou among its food trucks and highlights its Auvergne dish. Sergio’s Deli, Taverne Pinto and Mère Moustache are also listed, giving the ground a more recognisable food offering than a generic concession description.
The named drinking spaces have different identities. Pub Gallia Le 22 is presented as a colourful party space with a DJ, while Le Jaunard on the Allée des Supporters brings supporter songs and live music together. Terre de Rugby has a clubhouse character.
The Oval is the official ASM brasserie at 107 avenue de la République, 63100 Clermont-Ferrand. It offers both an indoor dining room and a terrace, with seasonal food. Its location on the stadium frontage makes it a concrete nearby dining option, and the restaurant’s own site provides the contact details for reservations.
L’En-but offers a match-day experience overlooking the main pitch from its panoramic restaurant.
The panoramic restaurant was enlarged during summer 2022, with its reopening announced by the club that August.
The refurbished Allée des Supporters introduced fresh chips with Cantal or Bleu d’Auvergne AOP cheese sauces, homemade Portuguese sandwiches from Taverne Pinto and a crêpe hut. Le Truffadou’s Auvergne version of a galette-saucisse also joined the offer. The club’s October 2024 account describes concerts on match days along the stand-length Bodega, with the space remaining active through the post-match gathering.
Our advice (opinion): Look for Le Truffadou in Le Village if you want the food stop to feel rooted in Auvergne, then leave time for the Fidélité sculpture on the forecourt.

How the stands and facilities developed
The Grande Tribune dates from 1968, and the Tribune Auvergne replaced the popular stand in 1999. The Phliponeau stand followed in 2006 with 1,950 places and a sports medical centre. In 2007 the Espace Edouard added reception rooms and offices, while the former presidential stand took the Volvic name.
The four corners were closed in 2011, adding reception areas, seats and giant screens. Further work in 2015 created a training and performance centre and changing rooms beneath Limagrain. The following year brought standing terraces at Phliponeau Basse and the Allée des Supporters, alongside ASM Experience. The ground’s modern appearance reflects this phased expansion.
In April 2024 Marcel-Michelin received the LNR’s gold stadium label. The club explained that the assessment covered six areas, including competition, public facilities, media provision, hospitality and operations. Its account also identified the hybrid natural playing surface.
The Groupama Rugby Club’s history display connects the hospitality interior to both the men’s and women’s teams. The 2010 and 2017 championship references sit alongside ASM Romagnat’s achievements. For visitors using that space, the stadium’s visual storytelling therefore extends beyond the current professional men’s squad to the wider rugby organisation.
The Étage des Légendes contains seven private suites, Club Fontès 2010 and Espace Bernard Chevalier. Légend’R is the exclusive match-day caterer for those rooms and also arranges private or business receptions outside the rugby calendar. L’En-but’s match packages are sold exclusively by ASM’s commercial team through partenariat@asm-rugby.com, with lunch or dinner scheduled around the home game.

Published disabled-supporter provision
ASM’s dedicated PSH/PMR ticketing page lists 40 wheelchair places with 40 accompanying-person places. It also lists 20 places for other disabled supporters, including people with visual impairments. The page directs applicants through the Trait d’Union association, making that association part of the actual access process for these places.
ASM Experience identifies its interactive museum as carrying the Tourisme et Handicap label. The museum is a separate visitor activity within the stadium complex, so this is a specific statement about that experience. Match tickets and wheelchair places are handled through the club’s separately published disabled-supporter arrangements.
Clermont’s tourism service describes ASM Experience as occupying more than 600 square metres on the ground floor of one of the stadium stands. Its subject is rugby and the club’s history.
The tourism office identifies the museum’s Tourisme et Handicap accreditation specifically for motor and cognitive impairments. It describes an entirely indoor route with accessible circulation and interactive exhibits. For cyclists, it identifies a C-Vélo station on place du 1er Mai in the stadium district, alongside the tram A approach to Stade Marcel-Michelin.

A rugby and Michelin visit in Montferrand
L’Aventure Michelin is at 32 rue du Clos Four, 63100 Clermont-Ferrand, alongside the stadium district. Its own visitor directions use tram A and the Stade Marcel-Michelin stop. This is a separate museum devoted to Michelin, with its own admission arrangements, and should not be confused with the rugby-focused ASM Experience inside the ground.
The ASM apartment occupies the former stadium caretaker’s residence. That origin distinguishes it from a conventional city hotel: it is an accommodation offering physically associated with the rugby ground.
The Oval’s terrace and interior give visitors two distinct settings at the avenue de la République frontage. Its seasonal menu and direct connection with ASM make it relevant to a rugby visit even outside the immediate stadium bars. Restaurant service belongs to the brasserie itself, with bookings handled through its own published contact channels.
The renovated apartment uses vintage decoration inspired by club history, with materials intended to recall older rugby changing rooms. Grand Mess supplied the furnishings, Auvergne Alu the new window fittings, and BNC Solutions the reversible air conditioning. Bienvenue Chez Nous manages stays, and the club advertises both match-day arrangements and nights outside the fixture programme.

Tours and the details worth distinguishing
The current ASM Experience offer combines a guided stadium visit with the interactive experience. The club gives a duration of one hour and thirty minutes and names the professional changing room, players’ tunnel, stands and pitchside among the areas visited. The tour is led by a professional guide and must be booked.
Groups of ten or more are directed to the ASM Experience reservations team. This is a different booking route from simply purchasing a rugby seat, and the guided visit has its own availability. The named behind-the-scenes spaces explain why a tour provides a different view of Marcel-Michelin from a match ticket.
The restaurant’s own directions identify Porte A and 107 avenue de la République, while correspondence uses the Clos-Four postal address. Both refer to L’En-but at Marcel-Michelin.
The tourism guide specifically recommends Les Pistes as a park-and-ride connected to tram A. Together with the dedicated Stade Marcel-Michelin stop, it provides a named public-transport approach to the stadium.
ASM Experience displays historic shirts, balls from significant matches and trophies alongside touchscreens and interactive games. Its installations use stadium sound, large-format images and lighting to recreate parts of the club’s match experience. A small museum shop sells souvenirs; the larger official club shop is on the stadium’s main avenue de la République frontage.
Our pick (opinion): ASM Experience is our choice for turning a match trip into a fuller rugby visit; the changing room, tunnel and pitchside tour add a different perspective.
