Parc y Scarlets

Parc y Scarlets gives Llanelli’s rugby a modern home with a supporter-requested North Terrace. The journey from the railway station is a substantial part of the visit, so plan the arrival alongside the ticket.

From Stradey to Pemberton in 2008

Parc y Scarlets opened for rugby on 15 November 2008 with Llanelli RFC against Cardiff RFC. The professional Scarlets side played its first game here against Munster on 28 November. Built by Andrew Scott Limited in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council, the ground replaced Stradey Park and placed Llanelli rugby in a new purpose-built stadium in the Pemberton area.

The final Stradey Park match against Bristol was a separate farewell to a ground that had served Llanelli rugby for 129 years. Scarlets’ retrospective recalls choirs, fireworks and supporters collecting pieces of turf after the final whistle. That emotional departure explains why a modern stadium guide still encounters so many Stradey references, without suggesting that the two grounds occupy the same site.

Llanelli’s famous 9–3 victory over New Zealand on 31 October 1972 happened at Stradey Park, not Parc y Scarlets. The club marked its fiftieth anniversary by recalling the town’s celebrations and the historic team. The story belongs to the heritage carried into the new ground, and its location should remain clear when discussing the achievements commemorated around today’s stadium.

Scarlets’ August 2025 investment announcement gives Parc y Scarlets a capacity of 14,870. It describes the club as representing three west Wales counties and tracing its roots to Llanelli RFC, founded in 1872.

Songs, statues and European nights

Scarlets beat La Rochelle 29–17 here on 30 March 2018 to reach the Champions Cup semi-finals. EPCR’s account records a capacity crowd and a decisive late Scott Williams try after the visitors threatened a comeback. It was the club’s first European semi-final since 2007, giving Parc y Scarlets a major continental occasion of its own beyond the memories inherited from Stradey.

Dafydd Iwan was booked to sing Yma o Hyd before the 2025 west Wales derby and to perform again afterwards in the East Stand car park. Scarlets described the song as a club favourite. This is a documented example of the music associated with the ground, rather than a promise that the singer appears at every home match.

For the 2025 Munster opener, Welsh tenor Trystan Llyr Griffiths led Sosban Fach and Yma o Hyd before kick-off. A community rugby festival on the training field formed part of the same programme. The named songs and performers show how the stadium’s rugby and Welsh-language culture meet on particular matchdays, with the fixture announcement supplying the actual schedule.

The main-stand approach is the Ray Gravell Legends Walkway, paved with bricks naming Llanelli RFC and Scarlets players who represented Wales. UEFA’s venue guide also identifies Gravell’s statue outside the stadium. These are tangible features to look for at Pemberton, linking the approach to the ground with the players whose careers shaped Llanelli rugby.

Llanelli station and the forty-minute walk

Scarlets identify Llanelli railway station as the nearest station and put it 2.2 miles from the stadium. Their published walking estimate is about forty minutes. The club therefore recommends local transport or its matchday shuttle as an alternative, which makes this a different rail arrival from a city-centre ground directly beside its station.

Traveline Cymru lists the L 1 bus connection from New Dock Road near Llanelli station to Parc y Scarlets. Its rugby travel page also names services 111 andL 7 around Park Pemberton and Ynys Las, with the 111 linking Bynea station’s Heol-y-Bwlch stop.

The club’s shuttle description starts in Carmarthen and calls at Kidwelly, Burry Port and points around Llanelli. Scarlets say timings depend on kick-off and are published through their match communications. That wider west Wales route is different from an assumed continuous station-to-stadium shuttle, so the advertised pick-up and return pattern matters for the particular fixture.

The venue’s road directions use M 4 junction 48 and theA 4138 towards Llanelli from both east and west. The stadium address is Parc Pemberton, Llanelli, CarmarthenshireSA 14 9 UZ. Its visitor guide also distinguishes free non-matchday customer parking from event arrangements, a useful separation when a general venue search appears to promise parking that a rugby ticket does not include.

The Lolfa and Supporters Village

The club’s March 2025 derby guide calls the former Heart and Soul bar the Lolfa and advertises pies and pasties there. It also identifies Bar Tanner Banc in the East Stand. Those names give visitors recognisable places within the stadium, while opening arrangements should come from the current fixture notice because that guide was written for a particular Ospreys match.

For that same derby, the Supporters Village included inflatables, player appearances at the Clwb Cochyn stand, face painting and mascot Cochyn. The club also ran a 50–50 lottery supporting the Scarlets Community Foundation.

The Supporters Village is the largest event facility at Parc y Scarlets and is marketed for up to 2,000 guests. The stadium uses it for exhibitions, indoor sport and ceremonies as well as its rugby-day role. This helps explain why supporters refer to a substantial village or barn space rather than a small concourse corner with a few temporary stalls.

The Sessile Oak is a family-oriented pub serving food alongside its drinks range. Its operator describes a garden and children’s facilities in the wider pub information, making it a local option for a group that wants a meal before the game. It is a separately operated venue, not one of the stadium’s ticketed hospitality lounges.

The Sessile Oak’s full address is Pemberton Park, LlanelliSA 14 9 WA, and its own website offers table booking. The postcode differs from the stadium’sSA 14 9 UZ. That distinction is useful when arranging a meal or drop-off: the pub and Parc y Scarlets sit in the same Pemberton area but are separate destinations with separate booking arrangements.

Our pick (opinion): The Lolfa appeals for a straightforward pie-and-pasty stop when included in the fixture programme; it also helps to recognise the former Heart and Soul bar under its newer name.

Our advice (opinion): For families, we would look first for the Supporters Village programme and Clwb Cochyn activities; those add a clear children’s focus around the match.

The North Terrace and named lounges

The ground was designed with four sides and a standing terrace in front of the North Stand, included at the request of the supporters’ trust. Its original fact file puts that terrace at 1,780 places and describes the South Stand as the largest side. The touchline stands have a curved arrangement intended to improve views, an identifiable feature of the stadium’s design.

The Quinnell Lounge is the stadium’s largest function room, measuring 684 square metres and containing two private bars. It takes its name from Derek Quinnell and sonsCraig, Scott and Gavin. The venue describes panoramic views of the main pitch, so this is an elevated hospitality and events setting rather than a public terrace included with every match admission.

The Phil Bennett Lounge sits on level three and measures 216 square metres, with a private bar, built-in public-address system and panoramic pitch views. Its namesake first played for Llanelli in 1966 and captained the club for six consecutive seasons from 1973 to 1979. The room therefore combines a defined location in the stadium with a tribute to a central Llanelli figure.

The original stadium fact file names the Ken Jones Museum and places the shop, museum and team facilities on the South Stand’s ground floor. It also lists an indoor training barn, outdoor training pitch and athletics track in the wider complex. Those facilities make Pemberton a rugby and community campus, not just a seated bowl used on first-team matchdays.

Our opinion: The North Terrace is the distinctive choice if standing is part of the appeal. For an elevated hospitality visit, compare the Quinnell and Phil Bennett rooms by their actual package and level rather than treating all South Stand access as the same experience.

Lift access and reserved parking

Accessible positions are distributed around all four stands. Scarlets describe lift access in the North and South stands and pitchside places at the East and West ends. The North access is marked Lift to platform; the South route runs through reception to level two outside the Quinnell Lounge. These are concrete differences to discuss when requesting a suitable viewing position.

The club’s accessible-ticket policy includes a complimentary carer place with designated disabled-area tickets and a free carer pass for eligible visually impaired supporters. Guide dogs are permitted, with advance contact recommended to discuss entry and facilities. Supporters who cannot manage several steps can ask the ticket office for seats near entrances or exits rather than being allocated an unsuitable higher row.

Scarlets’ travel page describes twenty-six season-allocated disabled parking spaces and three additional matchday spaces, with advance booking and Blue Badge evidence required. It also identifies a disabled drop-off point at the Castell Howell South Stand. These are limited, arranged facilities; the nearby public Car ParkBserves a different purpose from the stadium’s reserved accessible parking provision.

Choosing between town and Pemberton

The venue is in Pemberton rather than beside Llanelli railway station, and the official visitor guide places the rail connection 2.2 miles away. This is the practical distinction for an overnight stay: a central Llanelli room and a stadium-area room create different final journeys. The ground’s reception address and the club’s forty-minute walking estimate should be used together when comparing locations.

The Quinnell Lounge’s name honours the whole rugby family rather than one player alone. The venue’s account recalls Derek’s part in the 1972 All Blacks victory and later Llanelli captaincy, and the top-flight careers ofCraig, Scott and Gavin. For a hospitality visit, that background explains a prominent room name that appears in both matchday packages and the stadium’s non-matchday events listings.

The Phil Bennett Lounge’s published facilities include natural light, a private bar and conference equipment, with use for dinners and private parties as well as meetings. A supporter combining rugby with a group occasion can therefore enquire about a named, separately bookable room.

Our opinion: Pemberton suits a stadium-centred visit with a meal near the ground. Central Llanelli suits a town-based stay but comes with the club’s forty-minute walk, so the fixture’s shuttle pattern can make a real difference to that choice.

International rugby and the continuing Scarlets story

Wales used Parc y Scarlets for home internationals in 2020 while the Principality Stadium had served as the Dragon’s Heart Hospital during the pandemic. Scarlets announced that the remaining home matches that year would stay in Llanelli. This was a specific temporary national-team arrangement, and should not be interpreted as making the Parc the regular home of Wales men’s rugby.

Scotland won 14–10 at Parc y Scarlets on 31 October 2020, their first away victory over Wales in eighteen years. Stuart McInally’s second-half try was decisive in the Six Nations account. That match is part of the stadium’s own international history and supplies a precise sporting moment to distinguish it from the older Llanelli achievements at Stradey.

Parc y Scarlets has also hosted Cymru men’s and women’s football internationals. In 2024 the club announced two women’s European qualifiers here, explaining that international football had been part of the venue’s programme since its 2008 opening. A football event can use the same stadium address while having its own ticketing and operating arrangements, so the advertised event remains the relevant guide.

Scarlets’ expanded former-players programme assigns a unique number in order of first appearance to players who represented the west Wales side. The club connects that project with league titles in 2004 and 2017, European campaigns and the move from Stradey to Pemberton.
