From Central Park to Robin Park
The stadium opened in 1999 as the JJB Stadium, built by Alfred McAlpine at Robin Park. Wigan Warriors moved here from Central Park, while Wigan Athletic left Springfield Park. Both clubs became tenants of the same venue.
The sequence of names is JJB Stadium, DW Stadium from 2009, and The Brick Community Stadium from 13 May 2024. The latest name recognises the local charity The Brick. Old match reports using DW or JJB are describing this Robin Park ground. The operator records the stadium’s largest crowd as 25,133 for Wigan Athletic against Manchester United on 11 May 2008, a football attendance rather than a Warriors record.
The ground staged Wigan’s 22–6 World Club Challenge victory over Cronulla in February 2017. Joe Burgess scored three tries and Oliver Gildart the other; Morgan Escaré kicked three goals. The NRL’s match account gives a crowd of 21,011 and a 10–0 Wigan lead at half-time.
Another world title arrived here in February 2024, when Wigan beat Penrith 16–12 before 24,091 spectators. The NRL account records the crucial late covering tackle by Jai Field on Taylan May and a final Penrith scoring attempt that was disallowed. The result delivered Wigan’s fifth world championship. It was played under the DW Stadium name, shortly before the venue adopted its present charity-linked identity.

World-title nights and the Robin Park gathering
Penrith’s own report identifies Field’s two try-saving tackles and his part in creating the decisive Wigan score. Jake Wardle’s second-half try put the home side ahead, while the final passage left the outcome unresolved until the last play.
The Warriors’ pre-match Fan Village is at Robin Park Arena. Leeds’ May 2026 visiting guide directs supporters there and also records an on-pitch performance by The Stanleys for that particular fixture.
The 2017 victory had its own distinct pattern. Burgess finished in the corner early, added a second before the interval and completed his hat-trick near the end from a George Williams kick. Cronulla’s only try came through Jesse Ramien. The NRL report credits Wigan’s physical forward performance as well as Williams’ creative contribution, with Liam Farrell, John Bateman and Sean O’Loughlin providing the back-row platform.
Bevan French created Wigan’s opening try in the 2024 world-title match with a long pass to Abbas Miski. Kruise Leeming, newly arrived at the club, finished another move down the right for Wigan’s other first-half try. Matt Peet’s starting pack included Mike Cooper, Brad O’Neill and Liam Byrne, with Willie Isa, Liam Farrell and Kaide Ellis behind them. The bench combined Leeming with Patrick Mago, Tyler Dupree and Harvie Hill.

Two Wigan stations and the Robin Park approach
Wigan Wallgate and Wigan North Western are the rail options named in Northern’s 2026 Super League travel guide. It gives a twenty-minute walk from either station to The Brick Community Stadium. The same guide describes direct travel from St Helens Central to Wigan North Western for the derby.
The two main Wigan stations face opposite sides of the same town-centre road. North Western serves the long-distance corridor to London and Scotland, while Wallgate handles regional journeys. The RFL’s stadium directions distinguish the car-park approach on Stadium Way, using WN5 0UN, from the front entrance on Loire Drive, using WN5 0UZ.
The stadium’s visiting-supporter guide identifies buses 3 and 4 from Wigan as services passing ASDA at Newtown, with a five-minute walk from there to the ground. The guide routes motorists arriving from the north through M6 junction 27 and towards Shevington, Old Lane and Scot Lane before turning into Stadium Way for the car parks.
For Leeds’ 2026 rugby visit, the designated visiting-supporter parking was Car Park 1 beside the Powerleague Soccer Dome on Stadium Way. The guide specifies that accessible parking is arranged through the Warriors ticket office on 01942 311111 and requires the relevant disabled parking permit.
Our pick (opinion): We would build a rail visit around the published 20-minute walk from either Wigan station, keeping the town-centre arrival and Robin Park destination in the same plan.

Pies, Whelan’s and the stadium counters
The RFL’s visitor information identifies food counters and bars on every stand’s concourse, with Wigan pies among the refreshments. It describes those counters as card-only. The same stadium guide locates the principal first-aid station in the West Stand and a second first-aid point in the East Stand. Baby-changing facilities are provided around the stadium, with stewards directing visitors to the appropriate facilities for their stand.
Whelan’s is the stadium’s own bar and dining space, on Loire Drive, Robin Park, Wigan, WN5 0UH. Its operator describes a ground-floor room with a separate entrance and promotes it for Warriors and Athletic matchdays. Food named on the venue page includes homemade burgers, fries and stone-baked pizzas from a wood-fired oven. It also publishes separate main and breakfast menus.
The stadium announced a partnership with the social-enterprise coffee business Change Please, supplying Whelan’s, conference and event areas, and concourse kiosks. The published explanation links coffee sales with support for people experiencing homelessness.
The Moon Under Water is at 5–7a Market Place, Wigan, WN1 1PE. The operator lists step-free access, television screens and a licensed outside area. Its building history is unusually specific: number 5 was a bank from 1890 until 1957 and later a shoe shop, while number 7 occupies the former Cross Keys Hotel site.
The John Bull Chophouse publishes its address as 2 Coopers Row, Wigan, WN1 1PQ. The pub occupies a listed building on a cobbled street within a conservation area. Its drinks range includes cask ales, craft beers and ciders, with The Hop upstairs devoted to craft beer. Live bands and a rock jukebox are part of its identity. The operator lists nine cask ales, five ciders and eight craft beers across its draught selection.
The Red Robin is at 1 Anjou Boulevard, Robin Park, Wigan, WN5 0UJ. Greene King lists a beer garden, car park, Wi-Fi and indoor play among its facilities, with a Wacky Warehouse for children. The pub shows Sky Sports and TNT Sports and offers takeaway food. Its contact number is 01942 218965. This puts a family-oriented pub within the Robin Park district alongside the stadium, with a different setting from the town-centre Chophouse.
Our advice (opinion): Whelan’s would be our choice for a stadium-side meal, with its separate entrance and named burger and wood-fired pizza options.

The four sides of the Brick
The stadium operator gives a capacity of 25,138 and identifies both Wigan Warriors rugby league and Wigan Athletic football as its home clubs. It also lists eleven meeting and event rooms accommodating groups of different sizes.
The stadium consists of four single-tier stands.
Football Ground Guide describes the West Stand as the side containing the dressing rooms and players’ tunnel, with the technical areas in front. Its account also places the club’s administrative and hospitality functions on that side.
For the May 2026 Leeds visit, away supporters were allocated the North Stand, described as covered, unreserved seating behind the posts. Entry was through turnstiles N or P.
The Wigan Lounge is on the third floor of the West Stand, overlooking the playing surface. The room has natural light and air conditioning, with seating for eighteen guests divided between a round table for ten and a booth for eight. It forms part of the stadium’s corporate hospitality and event accommodation. The elevated location gives this small lounge a pitch view from the stand containing the dressing-room and administrative facilities.
The South Stand Lounge occupies the ground floor of the end stand. It has a private reception and cloakroom, two bars, a stage and direct doors to the South Stand concourse. The space is large enough to accommodate a boxing ring or wrestling mat, and is used for exhibitions, celebrations and sporting events as well as conferences. Its published dinner layout seats 400, while the theatre arrangement holds 500. The lounge and adjoining concourse can be combined for larger events.
At the opposite end, the North Stand contains The Marquee at ground level. Despite its name, this is a stadium room with a private reception, carpeting and a draped ceiling. It includes a fixed stage, a portable stage and a large dance floor. Vehicle access allows exhibition equipment into the space, while a public-address system serves events. The venue lists an area of 612 square metres and a theatre layout for 500 guests.
The Springfield Lounge is on level two of the West Stand. Partitions divide it into three rooms, with space for receptions, meals and smaller meeting groups. Its presentation equipment includes an eight-foot projection screen, a ceiling-mounted projector and a sound system. The venue also lists a portable dance floor. The full lounge covers 754 square metres, with a published layout for 280 diners or 200 people seated theatre-style.
The stands have steeply rising seating and are broadly equal in height. Their roof structures differ: the two touchline stands have prominent steelwork above the roof, while the end stands carry their steel framework below the roof line. An electronic scoreboard sits above the East Stand. Football Ground Guide also identifies the West Stand’s directors’ box and press facilities alongside the dressing rooms and tunnel. The playing surface is grass, with undersoil heating listed among the ground’s facilities.

Platforms, toilets and rugby ticket contacts
The stadium accessibility guide locates raised viewing platforms in blocks ES2, ES9, SS2, SS6, WS2, WS9, NS2 and NS6. Personal-assistant seats are alongside them, with lifts providing access to concourses and platforms. Ground-level seating and wheelchair spaces are also described at the front of the West Stand.
The same access guide lists two accessible toilets on each concourse, with baby-changing provision in one, and additional ground-level accessible toilets at the stadium corners. RADAR-key access is described, with welfare stewards able to assist.
Warriors’ 2026 home-ticket information directs accessible bookings to The Brick Community Stadium ticket office, by telephone on 01942 311111, in person, or through tickets@wiganwarriors.com. The club publishes East and West Stand tickets separately from South Stand tickets.

A named hotel and the football heritage project
Holiday Inn Express Wigan is at Martland Mill, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan, WN5 0LX. The hotel operator describes a twenty-minute walk to the stadium along the River Douglas. Its listed facilities include breakfast, on-site parking, Wi-Fi, an open-plan lobby, all-day dining and a lounge bar.
The hotel’s own information says there is no pool and no complimentary local-area shuttle.
Wigan Athletic Supporters Club’s review of the 2024–25 season confirms that stadium tours helped raise money for its Heritage Project. The group is based in the South Stand Suite, and the review describes further financial support for the heritage work.

Wigan questions answered with the venue details
Can you eat at the stadium without choosing a concourse counter? Whelan’s is the named alternative within the venue, with its own entrance, bar and cooked-food menu. The operator also hires it as a private event space for up to 140 guests.
Which Wigan station appears in the official rugby travel advice? Both Wallgate and North Western do. Northern’s league guide places each within a twenty-minute walk of the Brick, and specifically uses North Western for the direct St Helens connection.
Was the Penrith world-title match played at a different ground? No: the 2024 report calls the venue DW Stadium, the previous name of the Brick. Wigan’s 16–12 success included a Bevan French finish that was ruled out for offside and a desperate final defensive sequence.
